CCSD's Tiffin teacher Debbie Pentecost recently spent one week of her summer attending the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy in Jersey City, New Jersey. Mrs. Pentecost was one of 150 teachers selected from 1500 applications to attend this invigorating learning experience. The academy is for 3-5thgrade science and math teachers from around the country. In addition to great learning activities, teachers were given resource books, a year’s membership in National Science Teachers Association, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and formed a community to chat on-line and share resources his year. The week was capped by a visit from Phil Mickelson who thanked the teachers and offered encouragement as the teachers left to begin another year of teaching.
“I have already used some of the resources, but can’t wait to get to physics, since the academy emphasized physics this year. As enthusiastic as the teachers were doing the activities, I’m sure kids will be even more excited.”
