Former NBA Player Visits Allen and Mt. Logan

Allen School News, Mt. Logan School News, Old News No Comments

Wednesday, April 24th was a very special day for the leaders of Allen Elementary as Former NBA Player Lawrence Funderburke Visits Allen.  Leaders enjoyed an inspirational speech about the importance of goal making, perseverance, and getting a great education.  Mr. Funderburke came to Allen and Mount Logan Elementary in order to share his life “journey.” Mr. Funderburke told students that he did not always have it easy, but he always brought his “A” Game to everything that he did.  He encouraged students to do the same:  he also encouraged students to demand the “A” Game of their teachers as well.

Mr. Funderburke ended his very moving speech with a slam dunk and an autograph session in the Allen gymnasium. Lawrence says that the reason that he came toChillicotheon the eve of the Math OAA, is in honor of his wife, Monya (Fairrow) Funderburke who attended Western Elementary School, Smith Middle School, and Chillicothe High School.

The Funderburkes started a foundation called the Lawrence Funderburke Youth Organization (info@lfyo.org) to encourage Mathematics skills in children ages 6 to 9.  To learn more about this foundation and to the take the “Mr. Fundy’s Math Basketball Challenge,” please visit their website at http://Mathbasket.org.
