Eighty elementary scientists from around Chillicothe City Schools gathered during the week of June 10th at Geo Quest, a science camp developed by Camp Invention. The inventors created, discovered, invented, and uncovered solutions to situations presented from around the world. The students moved through five stations each day designed to introduce problems and offer students a chance to collaborate to imagine and create ways to solve those problems. In Launchitude students spent the first two days taking machines apart, brought from home to salvage parts to be used when making a duck launcher to help ducks complete their migration. In Cache Dash, students used letterboxing and geocaching skills to find information about problems from around the world. Students then created models of solutions to those problems. In Amazing Atlas, our young scientists learned about the Dead Sea; the Cave of Crystals, in Mexico; K2; and the Sahara Desert. They experimented with insulation to keep things cool, developed devices to retrieve supplies for mountain ledges, and learned how to make crystals. In Ecoverse, students made constellation charts, developed structures able to withstand seismic activity, and designed gear to help investigate volcanoes, including heat resistant suits. Geo Games is a real hit with the young scientists as they can burn off extra energy while completing team building, problem solving, physical activities. Students showed-off their creations to family and friends in an Inventor’s showcase on Friday afternoon. Students and staff thank

It’s time to plan to attend the CHS, “Next Level” girls basketball camp. Two sessions will be offered during this four day camp — June 10th – 13th. Grades 3-5 will meet and drill from 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. and grades 6 – 8 will meet and drill from 1 – 4:30 p.m. Girls from all area schools are invited to attend: grade levels are based on next year’s grade level.
