Thanks to the efforts of the CMS2 principal, Ms. Cyrdus, and teachers, the Chillicothe City Schools’ sixth grade students are feeling more comfortable in their new school. Staff helped accomplish this by spelling out expectations and procedures; they also welcomed students. They are working to support all students, as they transition from elementary school to middle school. The first two days of the year, students rotated through short sessions with each teacher. Topics included locks and lockers, how to read your schedule, a tour of the building, using agenda books to stay organized, our Positive Behavior system, leadership opportunities, and Leader in Me. Teachers also completed a variety of get acquainted activities with their students.
Sixth graders have now been through three rotations of our flipping academic schedule and are learning their way around the building. As locker and lock issues wane, it is time for academics to take center stage for the rest of the year.
